To Whom It May Concern:
If your institution seeks a freshman English and writing instructor who is articulate, thoughtful and thorough, loves the written word and sincerely desires to teach those willing to learn, I believe my abilities are well suited to your needs.
Presently, I proof and edit business plans (remotely, via computer) for start-ups seeking working capital business loans in the state of Michigan. I also create electronic portfolios of these plans for client viewing on Adobe.com.
As part of my graduate studies at Northeastern University, I interned as a staff reporter for Journal-Transcript Newspapers, where I wrote and published news articles for the Winthrop Sun-Transcript, Chelsea Record and East Boston Sun-Transcript. Ive written features and reviews for The Improper Bostonian, Jettstream magazine, and Boston Rock, as well as promotional material for Feather Records, an independent recording label. I also created and maintained my own web site, PoliticalPrimer.com, a user-friendly guide for young people in search of basic information about American politics.
I have a Bachelors degree in English from Northeastern, where I graduated sixth in my class, and a Master of Arts from that institutions journalism program. In undergraduate, and especially graduate studies, I frequently gave comprehensive presentations subject to superior and peer review, led or participated in group critique of various projects, and did so in compassionate, constructive fashion.
Im a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and am conversant in word processing (Word), graphic design (Adobe Pagemaker) and web design (Microsoft Frontpage).
I am responsible, methodical, and hard working. More, I bring a high sense of mission to the prospect of teaching. My goal is to instruct students in the art and mechanics of writing well and, as important to a liberal arts education, the vital skill of critical thinking.
My personal interests include current events, politics, history and literature. Ive been a freelance journalist for twenty years, have performed as lead vocalist in musical groups throughout that time, and volunteered to help the blind.
Finally, I wish to convey my commitment to excellence, both in terms of demanding curriculum and student achievement. The objective is to instill students with a breadth of understanding and expertise that can be drawn upon over a lifetime.
I may be reached at the phone number, street or e-mail address listed in the "Contact/Send Message" section of this website, and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with you regarding a position as instructor of English.
Thank you for your time,
Mark G. Mantho |
