1998 to 2011 Secondary School Teacher Westchester High School, LAUSD
Taught at urban high school with specialty in adolescent literacy skills. Also taught regular English Language Arts that included literature, grammar, usage, writing, and critical thinking. Also taught Health, and Life Skills; developed curriculum for Life Skills and worked with interactive online program to assist students in decision making skills and setting life goals. Facilitated substance abuse counseling program for two years until district funding withdrawn. Developed literacy course before district imposed a formal intervention program then became first teacher to implement the literacy program adopted by WHS LAUSD. Extensive experience in delivering Kaplan tutoring programs, especially Boot Camp program and after school programs to assist students who needed help passing the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Developed an outpatient alcohol and other drug treatment program using cutting edge drug therapy with comprehensive behavioral and recovery services. Developed program treatment protocols, wrote complete policies and procedures and personnel manuals, hired, and evaluated all supervised clinical and support staff, developed all clinic forms, preformed marketing and outreach duties, performed purchasing and set up of branch clinics, and performed due diligence in acquisition of satellite clinics and sub-acute care hospitals.

Co-taught an undergraduate Public Health course that trained peer health volunteers. Lectured and led seminars in the UCLA Medical School Doctoring course for medical students. Hired to develop campus alcohol and drug abuse screening, prevention and education program. Wrote and won two prevention grants and preformed duties as Principal Investigator. Worked with residence halls, fraternities and sororities, graduate students organizations, athletic department, campus police, and Seeds Elementary School. Provided screening and consultation to students referred by medical staff, student psychological services, and other student service providers. Wrote bi-weekly op-ed column for the Daily Bruin campus newspaper with 28,000 circulation.

Worked with other health education programs to train student volunteers in public health outreach and education. Conducted campus-wide survey on high risk behavior as part of national survey of post secondary schools. Published alcohol and drug abuse education materials. Planned and implemented special events and provided screening and consultation with students identified with substance abuse problems.
