My name is Connor, I'm currently 17 years old and teach the piano and music composition and song writing. My policy is to know what the student wants out of their lessons, and provide just that. Do you want to learn how to play modern music? Classical music? Or do you want to learn how to write your own songs? Whatever you want, I will teach it fit to your own style, and hopefully give a fun experience and knowledge of music that may last a lifetime.
I first started on the piano with my grandmother as a temporary teacher, Chopsticks being my first ever song. I was so proud to play it. I never much liked the piano as a little kid, especially with all the lessons I was thrown into later on in life. But something as simple as learning a song that I could play made me enjoy it. I could create music that sounded good.
I went on to music theory classes in 6th grade, as it was either that or band. In that class, we also go to use the piano, play with it. We learned all of our scales, and so forth, and it really made me feel connected to music in a way.
Music and I came together like two peas in a pod. Anything new that I learned I would remember no matter what one threw at me. However, it wasn't until 8th grade, winter break when I had nothing else to do, that I started to get into the piano. At first, my parents loathed it. They got me a piano teacher, and, of course, I didn't like the teacher.
My biggest problem with teachers was just that, they tried to teach me something that didn't amount to playing a song that I could memorize and perform. I understand that may work for some people, that's great; however, I've always liked being able to do my own thing and just learn a song on my own, or even write when the mood struck me.
After the most basic piano lessons on sight reading, key signatures, and figuring, I was printing out some fairly complicated sheet music and learning it all on my own. Later teachers where surprised with my skills when I still claimed to be a beginner. I even asked my teacher later on for help on a song I was writing, however the knowledge escaped her teaching plans.
And time passed on, and as each day goes by, I continue to get better and better at the piano. I wouldn't say I'm a master, however, my skill surpasses that of the Average Joe who learns "Someone Like You" by Adele and only ever plays that song.
I have been praised for the emotion I put into my songs, and the songs that I write, as it seems to be one of my talents. It's something that comes with time. But practice make's perfect.
Good day. |
