She received her doctorate in Latin American and Caribbean history with a minor in United States history. She received her B.A. in History and Anthropology from George Mason University. Dr. Jones is an active member of various academic organizations and research centers such as: the Dominican-American Roundtable, the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, the Latin American Studies Association, the American Historical Association, the Caribbean Studies Association, and the Association of Caribbean Historians.
