I am a highly enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated, fully qualified teacher/trainer and ICT professional with a strong academic background in post graduate qualifications in information systems and technology management.
I completed my teacher training post-graduate programme at the University of Greenwich.
Following the completion of my PGCE at Greenwich University, I was appointed as an NQT, ICT teacher at London Academy where I taught ICT to mixed set of pupils of age range between 11 and 19 years old in Key stages 3, 4 and 5. I taught curriculum- based ICT specifications, and examining boards I have experience of include: OCR, AQA, EDEXCEL (DIDA) and BTEC. In fact, over 30% of my students had distinctions in ICT and 100% obtained a grade C during 2011 examinations period that I worked at the Academy. I currently work as an ICT examiner with EDEXCEL.
Knowledge of key applications gained during my training and other work experiences include MS office and SCRATCH low level programming language. In addition, I have hands-on experience of advanced programming languages including JAVA, C++ and other Object Oriented tools and techniques.
I am currently tutoring at Pimlico Academy, teaching and assessing sixth form students in subjects in ICT, Economics and Business Studies.
My last non-teaching role was as the ICT manager for an international children charity based at the City of London. Prior to this position, I was the IT manager for a Local Government Research and Policy organisation, where I developed and managed their ICT infrastructure and projects
I have over 13 years Industry experience in ICT. This has given me a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge. The skills I have developed include communicating effectively with various stakeholders, including colleagues and senior managers. I know that effective communication and problem solving are also important skills that a teacher must possess.
Since embarking on teaching as a career I have developed excellent subject knowledge over the course of my teaching practice and NQT placements where I have taught and supported students from Key Stages 3 to 5.
Moreover, I would like to continue developing my subject knowledge at any given opportunity and being a member of the BCS Chartered Institute of IT and Microsoft Virtual Academy has helped me to keep up-to-date with current developments in Technology.
Teaching pupils of mixed gender and with wide ranging abilities has made me realise that some students excel in particular areas, learn faster than others or even have high potential.
I have used various strategies and differentiation methods to challenge and stretch more able pupils, these include; getting more -able pupils to teach the less -able a key learning point either through peer demonstrations or paired work, and providing scaffolding materials to help the less-able pupils to improve their knowledge and understanding
I believe that positive behaviour (achieved through excellent lesson planning) in the classroom is essential for stimulating and fostering learning. To this end, I have developed effective classroom management strategies. The strategies that I use for classroom management include: setting clear classroom rules and routines (and being consistent in applying them); having high expectations of my students and modelling excellent personal behaviour. I have successfully managed to establish firm boundaries with the students that I teach, but at the same time teaching with enthusiasm. passion and encouraging students to express them-selves and participate fully in lessons.
I have come to appreciate assessment for, and of learning as a central part of education and I have incorporated questioning, feedback through marking, and peer & self-assessment into my teaching. I believe that every child matters and that they can achieve anything, given the right guidance, education and above all, encouragement.
I am confident that my passion and commitment to excellence in education coupled with my knowledge and experience equips me well to a teacher of ICT and indeed other subjects including Maths, Economics and Business Studies |
